The Pastor's Corner

Dr. Bobby Howard

On August 13, 2008 The Fathers House Church took a trip down Waldron Road in La Vergne, TN.  Our rent was increased from $2771.00 per month to $6300.00 per month.  Our church had to find a new place to worship.  Rock Springs Elementary School graciously opened their doors for us to worship on Sunday mornings.  This move has taught me that the “church” is not a building but a body of believers.  The church is “people” not bricks, mortar or even a steeple.  So, The Fathers House Church continues on it’s mission to Love, Mend and Disciple those who come through our doors each week.  There have had to be some changes to our day to day programs but God is providing.  On Wednesday nights there is a prayer meeting at Scott & Sherry Rush’s home.  Twice a month there is a Bible study and Kathy and Greg Werle’s home.  Each Wednesday evening the teenagers and young adults gather at Gregg & Sherry Gentry’s home for fellowship and study.  Although we have become a “church without walls” the ministry continues.  For information and directions to these meetings please call 615-793-0833.  The church telephone number has been transferred to my home office so we don’t lose any calls.  If you have wondered where we are, now you know.

It is my desire to purchase land to build our own church building.  Land in La Vergne is very expensive.  Rutherford county is one of the fastest growing counties in our state.  I believe that God has allowed us to be removed from our “comfort zone” so we will build Him a place of worship that will belong to Him and will be here for our children and our children’s children.  We are told to be the lender not the borrower.  I have only one plan and that is to hear from God with every step we take.  There is a great opportunity that awaits us as we venture into unknown territory.  God is looking for us to trust in Him and lean not on our own understanding.

Since having to move to the school our attendance has dropped 50%!  As a pastor it saddens me to see our sheep scattered not knowing where the rest of the flock has gone.  It is always difficult when a church  has to change locations especially if there is not adequate time to notify everyone.  It is my prayer that those who read this article will let it be know that we are still singing, praying and preaching God’s Word and meeting regularly not forsaking the assembly of ourselves together.  Perhaps you can call a friend or just drop by Rock Spring Elementary and see what God is up to.  Keep The Father’s House in your prayers and come and visit with us soon.
